Indeed there is a bare minimum that you can do, just update one of the drivers, but I felt I should give a “fail-proof” approach to this. Anyone who understood the logic behind the method (like you did) could do things their own way, just updating the required drivers
I will update the post to include your remark, I forgot the 4 port controller needed to be updated.

From my experience, only the second of the 2 needs to be replaced – no need to uninstall, just update and restart. Attempting to do the first of the 2 controllers just BSOD the device.

Many thanks for this post – it’s a life saver.

That’s the second driver issue now I’ve seen with new HP laptops and XP drivers (audio on Elitebooks) where a mash up is required to fix.

Hi,

You should also be able to update your existing drivers with the ones you manually specify. What I explained in the section called “Option 1″, you can get the same results by selecting your disk drive controllers and clicking on “Update Driver” button. The same “New hardware Wizard” will show up and at this point you can follow the steps I described.
You should not let windows search for drivers, as you will be stuck in the same situation you are in right now.
If there is something I did not explain properly please let me know, I will try to improve the wording.

I am trying to install de new drivers, but plug&play does not let me. It just continuously reinstalls the old ones. What can I do?
